Making themselves at home

Why do I get more bugs in my home during Winter?

We may have said fair well to the annoying flying bugs that summer brings; Mosquitoes, Wasps and Flies, but in winter we have an influx of other critters entering our homes.

During the colder months your home becomes more attractive to certain pests, the outdoor temperatures drop, there is a lack of food available, so they start looking for shelter & food. Your home may seem like a welcoming place for some bugs who will also be looking for somewhere toasty & warm to spend the colder months.

5 Winter Insects

Cockroaches are around the entire year, in winter they can be spotted in your home too. Placing baits & poisons may not be affective so call the Healthguard team for our experienced technicians for assistance.

You may notice more Spiders in your home during the colder months however they are always around, the Brown Rescue Spider will head indoors to find shelter from the cold & to find a food source.

When temperatures drop outdoors Fleas will be looking for a warm host. so may invade your house. They reproduce quickly and you may soon have an infestation taking over your home.

Flies are not cold-blooded so cannot adapt to living outdoors, any that survive will be looking for warmth. Adult flies only lives 15 -24 days, however they can lay eggs around you home and when they hatch this may lead to an infestation.

With there being a lack of food for animals outside in winter, Ants are likely to also be looking to make their way into your home. If they can find an easy access route and find a food source (even minute scraps) you could easily have an ant infestation during winter.
